Malta is small and well connected, which makes getting around easier than most island destinations. Here’s what to expect from touchdown at Malta International Airport to your first evening in the apartment.
From the airport
Malta International Airport sits roughly in the centre of the island, so no apartment we manage is more than about 30 minutes away by car. A taxi or a pre-booked private transfer is the simplest option straight off a flight, especially with luggage. Public buses also run from the airport to most major towns, including Valletta and Sliema, if you’re travelling light and want to save on cost.
Self check-in, on your schedule
Because check-in works by keybox rather than someone meeting you with keys, you’re not tied to a rigid arrival window. Land late, clear customs slowly, grab a coffee first — as soon as your apartment is confirmed ready, we send your code and directions, and you let yourself in.
Getting around once you’re here
Malta’s public bus network reaches almost everywhere and is inexpensive, though timetables can run loosely, so build in a buffer if you’re on a schedule. For hopping between Valletta and Sliema or the Three Cities, the passenger ferries are faster and more pleasant than a bus in traffic, and reasonably priced.
Taxis and ride-hailing apps cover the gaps, and if you plan to explore further afield — Mdina, the west coast, Gozo — hiring a car for a day or two is worth considering, since public transport thins out away from the main towns.
Getting to Gozo
The ferry to Gozo runs frequently from Ċirkewwa in the north of Malta, about 45 minutes to an hour’s drive from most of our apartments. It’s an easy day trip if you want a taste of the sister island without changing accommodation.

You don’t need a car to enjoy Malta, but a mix of walking, ferries and the odd taxi will get you everywhere that matters.
